2023
This vineyard sits on soils defined by a limestone gravel substrate, which gives the appellation its unique character. Though shallow, these highly arable soils are a blend of brown and blonde clay-limestone, mixed with gravel. This combination allows for excellent drainage and vine growth. The wines from this plot, planted in 1957, are elegant and precise, offering vibrant freshness, impressive density, and a refined complexity that reflects the essence of the terroir.

The 2023 Vintage: Balance, Finesse, and Elegance
2023 will be remembered as an exceptional year, marked by an endless summer and record-breaking temperatures, making it the hottest year ever recorded. Despite these extreme conditions, this vintage stands out for its remarkable balance, finesse, and elegance.
A Dry Start and a Beneficial Spring
The autumn of 2022 and winter of 2023 saw a significant water deficit, with 80% fewer rainfall in February. The spring, with its rains and near-normal temperatures, encouraged steady vine growth and a uniform bud break in April.
Harmonious Flowering and Promising Veraison
May and June saw alternating storms and sunshine, ensuring rapid and uniform flowering. The late June rains (up to 100 mm in Chambolle-Musigny) provided the necessary hydration without causing hail or significant damage. Veraison, initially slowed by the drought in August, picked up pace with the late-August rains and was further accelerated by the heat in early September.
Harvest in Beautiful Weather
Beginning on September 11, the perfectly ripened grapes were harvested over the course of ten days under consistently beautiful weather (20 to 28°C). Carefully controlled yields ensured grapes of excellent quality.
A Promising Autumn
Regular rainfall through late October replenished the groundwater, preparing the terroir for future vintages.
A Remarkable Vintage
Despite the climatic challenges, 2023 delivers wines of perfect balance, subtle finesse, and great elegance.

The 2022 harvest, which began on August 31st, took place under summer temperatures. This year, the growing season was marked by striking climatic contrasts. After a rainy autumn and a frigid December, February and March brought unusually mild weather. The spring, bathed in sunshine and drought, was particularly mild, peaking in May with the highest temperatures in the past fifty years, which encouraged vigorous vine growth. The summer, one of the hottest since 2003, was punctuated by heatwaves in late June, mid-July, and throughout August. Despite the intense heat, the water reserves accumulated over winter ensured a harmonious maturation of the grapes. The 2022 vintage, though shaped by extreme climatic conditions, yields wines of great finesse and remarkable elegance, offering exquisite freshness and generous volume on the palate.

While the 2021 growing season concludes with a sunny summer, its beginning was marked by two devastating frosts that deeply affected the vines and threatened the upcoming harvest. That year, Burgundy experienced a relatively mild winter. In spring, after significant frosts in early April, the return of fine weather provided ideal conditions for flowering. A few weeks later, early summer was characterized by heavy rains and persistent humidity. By August, however, dry and radiant weather persisted for three consecutive weeks, promoting optimal fruit ripening. By late September, the grapes reached perfect ripeness, prompting the harvest to begin on September 23rd. The production from this capricious vintage is exclusive. Evocative, with finesse and elegance, the wines reveal exceptional freshness and present beautiful volume on the palate.

This exceptional vintage, produced in very limited quantities due to the intense summer heat, harks back to the glorious past of great Burgundies. After a wet and mild winter, the summer of 2020 was characterized by dry and hot conditions. During this period, the vines suffered from a lack of water from flowering onwards, leading to reduced yields. The harvest was notably early, beginning at the end of August, with an average production of 15 hl/hectare. This early and sunny vintage offers beautifully crafted wines, marked by remarkable freshness and tension, with a rare elegance of silky, refined tannins. This grand vintage deserves the care of extended cellaring to fully reveal its potential. However, its vibrant character and excellent balance also allow for enjoyment in its youth, showcasing notes of crisp fruit complemented by a delicate floral nuance.

The harmonious interplay of finesse and power creates a sumptuous texture that caresses the palate. Spring 2019 was marked by highly variable weather, alternating between fine conditions and episodes of low temperatures. The cool weather during flowering led to reduced yields due to run-off. However, after a scorching June and a hot, dry summer, the grapes ripened beautifully and were in exceptional condition, allowing the harvest to begin under favourable weather on September 17th. Produced in limited quantities, with the average yield across all our appellations in 2019 falling below 20 hl/hectare, this vintage delivered wines of exceptional quality. Despite the heat and dryness, the wines are rich, concentrated, and display excellent digestibility, freshness, length, and persistence. The tannins are ripe and well-integrated, showcasing remarkable balance, with impressive tension and minerality.
